Abstract
24,800. Calhoon, A. O. Nov. 5. Angle - measuring instruments; squares; clinometers etc.; levels &c.-A bevel for use in constructing roofs is adapted to be used also as a set-square, try-square, level and plumbing-instrument, protractor, and measure of length. The instrument comprises a quadrant, Fig. 1, with an index arm Y, pivoted at X' so as to be rotatable over a scale of degrees, and over the scales A, B, C, &c., which occur on both sides of the instruments and give the data necessary for constructing roofs. As shown in Fig. 4, the ends of the arm Y are bifurcated to engage the quadrant on both sides, a thumb-screw Y<2> in the arm sliding in the concentric slot Z' in the arc serving to lock the arm in any position. The member X<2> is widened so as to form with the member X a set-square, a length scale being marked on it. When the arm Y is locked in the zero position, it forms with the member X an internal set-square, and when free it enables internal angles of the roof-members to be measured. A spirit level 6 is attached to the arm Y, and enables the instrument to be used as a level and plumbing-instrument.
