Abstract

23,996. Nichols, C. J., and Wentworth, H. T. Oct. 27. Striking-plates.-In locks for the pendent door flaps of sectional book-cases &c., a device is provided to act as a striking-plate, which may be placed in inoperative position so that the door flap can be opened and closed at will without necessitating the use of the key. A lever d pivoted on a plate c is fixed to the underside of a shelf, and is provided with a bevelled end and notch d<1> for automatic engagement with the spring bolt b<1> of the lock. When desired to put the lock out of action, the lever is turned to a position at rightangles to that shown, so that it is out of the path of the bolt b<1>. The attaching-plate c may be dispensed with, the lever d being pivoted directly to the shelf ; the lever may be arranged to fall into engagement with the lock.
