Abstract

17,377. Standerwick, W. C. Aug. 2. Brakes.-A slipper brake for motor-cars, omnibuses, and like vehicles can be operated from the vehicle and applied without undue shock. The slipper 1 is pivoted to an arm 2 the square upper end of which can work in a stirrup 5 under the action of a spring 10. The stirrup is pivoted at 6 to a cramp 7 on the bearing-spring 8. The slipper is normally held in the dotted position by a chain 12 connected to an operating-lever. When the chain 12 is slackened, the arm 2 falls into a vertical position and the wheel mounts upon the slipper, which is held in position by a chain or wire 14 in which is interposed a stretching-screw and a spring 17 to prevent undue shock when the brake is applied. Washers 19 permit of the adjustment of the shoe to the wheel.
