Abstract

13,066. Schuster, W., and Ast, H. June 6. Clutches.-Relates to means for preventing the oil employed to lubricate the bearings of electro-magnetic friction clutches from spreading to the friction surfaces, the windings, and the contactrings. The clutch part b, Fig. 1, runs on a loose bush h on the shaft i, and the lubricating -oil is led by inclined lips 1, 2 o n t h e bush h and part b beyond the plane of the friction surfaces c, d on the clutch parts a, b into a chamber, from which it passes by centrifugal action. Grooves m, n on the bush h and part b keep the escaping oil from the contact-rings f. The receiving-chamber may be formed in the part b. The end of the bush h or the part b may be formed into a chamber overlapping the part b, the oil being conveyed away through the part b, for instance as shown in Fig. 8. The parts may be protected by a ring r, Fig. 10. In Fig. 7, the contact-rings f on the part b are shown protected by an inclined annular flange 6, grooves m and passages protecting the friction surfaces and winding. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, the hub of the part b is extended beyond the plane of the surfaces c, d and bears against a spring- pressed ring o provided with an inclined surface 5. The hub of the part a may be similarly extended. The lubricant thrown off may be collected in suitable reservoirs.
