Abstract

10,609. Pantin, H., (Executor of Abel, C. D.), [Akt.-Ges. f³r, Anilin - Fabrikation]. May 5. Dyeing fast and clear grey shades on furs, feathers, and the like is effected with a dilute aqueous solution of a suitable salt of p.amidodiphenylamine, or of p-p-diamidodiphenylamine in the presence of an oxidizing-agent, e.g. hydrogen peroxide. The material may be mordanted, e.g. with an aluminium salt, such as alum, and then washed, before dyeing. In an example, the fur is first suitably treated with soap or an alkali, which is then thoroughly washed out, the water being preferably mixed with acetic acid towards the end of the washing. The fur is then treated in an alum bath for several hours and afterwards washed with water. The dye-bath is then prepared, and consists of a dilute aqueous solution of p-amidodiphenylamine hydrochloride and hydrogen peroxide. The dyeing is effected at the ordinary temperature in a few hours. In a modification, the aluming is omitted, and the dye-bath consists of a dilute solution of p-p-diamidodiphenylamine hydrochloride, hydrochloric acid, and hydrogen peroxide. In another modification, in which the diamido salt is used, the fur is mordanted as before and the acid is omitted. Dyeing is in this case effected at 20-25‹ C., alkali being entirely absent. Dyeing is followed by washing and drying. Specification No. 14,212, A.D. 1905, is referred to. According to the Provisional Specification, derivatives of p-amidodiphenylamine may be used.
