Abstract

9139. Christie, W., Christie, J., and Christie, M. S. April 18. Rivet-heating furnaces.-A furnace for heating rivets and the like consists of a circular hearth B, above which is suspended a fuel-supply magazine K. The hearth is mounted to rotate upon rollers G, and is provided with openings C for the discharge of ashes. A blast of air is supplied from the pipe E through a downward extension L, and a bored plug F is provided to close partly the opening in the hearth. As an alternative arrangement, air may be supplied downwardly through the fuel magazine, and hydrocarbon vapour or a mixture of hydrocarbon vapour and air may be used for the blast. According to the Provisional Specification, the tube K may project above the hearth and may terminate in a perforated cap; or the tube may be open at the top, a cover-plate being provided to prevent the escape of ashes.
