Abstract
8448. Whitehead, L. D. April 9. Lathes; boring; end facing.-Pipes and branches of various shapes, engine cylinders, &c. are bored and faced on the various flanges at one setting. The article to be treated is secured on a table 2, Fig. 5, pivoted to a block 11, Fig. 4, movable in transverse guides on a saddle, or on a casting bolted to a saddle. The table is raised by a screw 12 to allow it to be rotated to bring the desired face into position. A scale and vernier assist the setting, and when set the table is lowered and clamped at 8. In a modification, the transverse movement may be omitted and the table may be circular, A lever or other gear may be substituted for the screw 12, and mechanical rotating- means may be provided.
