Abstract

5865. Davies, J. March 10. Rail joints.- Flat-footed railway rails are j jointed d without perforations for bolts and the like being made in the rail web. The rail -ends are fitted into a clamping-member 2 formed in one piece, and abut against the ends of the inwardly-extending tread portion 10. The clamping-member 2 comprises a base 4, extending under the base of the rails, an .upwardly and inwardly extending flange on one side, having its.inner surface 5 bearing against the head and base of the rails like an ordinary fish-plate and forming a recess 7 for receiving one side of the feet of the rails, and a vertical flange 8 having screwed holes 9 for receiving bolts. When the rails are in position, an ordinary fish-plate 3 is fitted on the remaining side of the rails, and bolts 12 are passed through the holes 11 in the fish-plate, tread portion; and flanges of the clamping-member. Nuts 13, 14 are provided, which bear respectively against the outer surfaces of the flange 8 and of the fish-plate 3. Afterwards, bolts 15 are screwed through the holes 9, and bear against the outer surface of the fish-plate 3.
