Drawers for office desks and other furniture are supported in front by an horizontal, transverse roller and guided by rollers held in a bracket at the back of the drawer, the lower flanged roller, or a sleeve which may replace it, engaging a longitudinal guide-rail above or below the recess holding the drawer, and the upper roller running along the top of the recess. The bottom of the recess in which the drawer fits is formed by a transverse bar b with a channel in which is mounted a steel roller e to support the drawer in front and a longitudinal bar b<1> which carries the guide-rail d. The rear end of the drawer is supported and guided at the bottom by means of the grooved roller f running on the guide-rail d, and at the top by a smooth roller g which runs at the top of the recess holdiog the drawer, the rollers being mounted in a bracket h secured to the back of the drawer. The steel roller e may rest loosely in the groove in the bar b, or its ends may be journaled in metal blocks sunk into the posts c ; or the wooden bar may be replaced by a metal bar, the ends of which form bearings for the roller. A pair of guide-rails and guidepulleys or guide-sleeves may be used for each drawer, and a pair of side rollers may be employed, in addition to the roller e at the front of the drawer. A roller having a flange running in a longitudinal groove may replace the grooved roller and spindle, and the side partitions between the drawers may be omitted.
