Description

in verzzar Q 54W M I I I III I I/Vz'fnesses: 6M
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ULYSSES GRANT MCQUEEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO GRANT PULLEY AND HARDWARE COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
RAIL FOR SLIDING DOORS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Oct. 17, 1905.
' Application filed pte be 27, 1904. Serial No. 226,104.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ULYssEs GRANT Mc-.
QUEEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Rails for Sliding Doors,of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to rails for sliding doors; and it consists of certain novel parts and combinations of parts particularly pointed out in the claims concluding this specification.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a sliding door running on a rail embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same.
The following is a description of the rail shown in the drawings which illustrate my invention in the form in which I at present prefer to embody it; but it will be understood that various modifications and changes may be made in the details of the same without departing from the spirit of my invention and withoutexceeding the scope of the concluding claims. Y
1 is a door, a portion of which is cut away to admit the housing 2 for the roller 3. 4: and 4 are the journals for said roller.
5 is the surface of the sill, shelf, or counter, which is grooved to receive the rail 6, se-' cured thereto by any suitable means, such as the screws 7 7 This rail has flanges 8 8, which fit into the groove, so that the top surface of said flanges is flush .With the surface 5.. Between said flanges is the track 9, the top of which is also flush with the surface of the flanges and the surface 5. Thus by my invention I overcome the objectionable feature in this art of a rail or track which protrudes to some considerable extent above the surface of the sill, shelf, or counter and provide one no part of which extends above the surface, but which is flush therewith, so that a smooth surface is presented.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire'to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A support for a laterally-movable door comprising a rail provided with a track-section having flanges projecting laterally therefrom, the upper faces of said track and flanges being in the same horizontal plane and flush with each other and adapted to be seated flush with the surface of a body to which the rail may be secured.
2. In a support for a laterally-movable door, the combination with a rail comprising a tracksection and flanges projecting laterally therefrom, said flanges being flush with the bearing-face of the track-section, of a body constructed to receive and seat said rail flush with the surface thereof.
In testimony WhereofI have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ULYSSES GRANT MCQUEEN.
