2138. Best, J., and Beamer, J., Jan. 27. Paddle-wheels.-The paddles 8 are constructed of two plates 9, 10 placed at an angle to the radius and secured together at their outer ends by a cap 12. Their inner ends are connected to a built-up drum 7. Wedge-pieces 15 are fitted to keep out floating debris. Wheels of this construction present a similar surface to the water in backward as well as in forward running.
