Abstract

27,277. Johnston, G., and Wardell, T. Dec. 30. Tubular valves; rotary cylindrical valves.-A throttle valve for controlling the supply of the air and gas mixture to gas and oil engines is provided, as shown in Fig. 1, with additional parts d, g serving to control an auxiliary air supply. The valve is rotatably adjusted by hand or by a governor through the arm i, and also longitudinally through the lever k and rod l, preferably from the governor. In the position shown in Fig. 1, a full supply of the mixture is given through the ports b, f, together with a small additional air supply, suitable, say, for starting or moving slowly. To supply more air without altering the main supply, the valve is adjusted longitudinally ; for this purpose the aperture f in the valve is made longer than the inlet b. Fig. 5 shows an adjusted position in which the valve is giving the maximum auxiliary air supply, while the supply of the gas mixture at the inlet b is partly cut off.
