Abstract
26,219. Vernum, W. Dec. 16. Winches.- A device for raising and lowering electric lamps has a spring-controlled reel mounted on a divided stationary spindle composed of a central insulating portion and metallic ends with a pin-andslot connexion between the parts. From the ceiling rose a depend brackets d having binding-screws s, to which the ends of the leads t are attached and which serve to support the stationary spindle of a drum c of insulating-material. The spindle is composed of a metallic end h closely fitting a ring e in contact with a binding-screw e<1> on the drum, and a middle portion : i of insulating-material connected to the end h by a pin and slot and carrying a metal sleeve k riding in the metallic ring f in contact with the other binding-screw f<1> on the drum. The sleeve k is connected with a slotted catch-plate l, in the slots of which release pawls n engage so as to permit ready adjustment of the tension of the spring. This end of the spindle is of square while the end h is of round section, the brackets d being made accordingly. The spring v is attached at w to the spindle, while the other end is fastened to the drum. Specifications No. 15,645, A.D. 1891, and No. 8548, A.D. 1894, [Abridgment Class Electric lamps &c.], and No. 23,048, A.D. 1902, are referred to.
