Acetylene.-An apparatus for purifying acetylene comprises a cylinder a having a diaphragm g supporting trays c of purifying-material, and having apertures near its edge to allow the gas to pass to other trays arranged on the floor of the cylinder. The gas is led to the upper trays by a supply pipe e having at its upper end a mushroom distributor j. In the centre of the floor of the cylinder is a chamber d containing cotton-wool f and having an aperture h leading to the gas-holder. There may be two or three trays on each tier, a door b being provided for the insertion and withdrawal of the trays.
