Abstract

23,942. Hollingworth, E., [Crompton & Knowles Loom Works]. Nov. 21, Loom dobbies.-Relates to the pattern mechanism of looms requiring a long pattern or a pattern with two or more different weaves. The invention is shown applied to a Hollingworth & Knowles head motion, in which the pattern cards 32, Fig. 2, operate spring - controlled needles 46, so that needles 12 are or are not hooked on and raised by a griff 11 on a cam-operated lever according to the pattern indication, the raising or lowering of the needles raising or lowering the vibrator gears so that the latter may be turned by the upper or lower gears respectively. The cards are provided with four or other number of rows of holes, and the card cylinder is raised or lowered so as to place one of these rows into operative position according to pattern mechanism on the cards. When a change of pattern is desired, the pattern card 32, having special holes in it for such indication, allows a special indicator needle 46<a> to be acted upon by a spiral spring 47, and cause a special hook wire 14 to hook over the left plate 13 on a cam-operated lever 9, whereby an arm 15, Fig. 4, is raised ; this rocks a shaft 16 and, by means of an arm 18 engaging a collar 19 on a shaft 20, moves the latter so that a star-wheel 21 is placed in position to be engaged by pins 23<1> on a pin-wheel 23, on a shaft driven from the shaft 5. The star-wheel on the shaft 20 and a cylinder 24 thereon, carrying pins 24<1>, are turned one-sixth of a revolution. The pins are of different length so that a lever 25 supported thereby is raised or lowered and, by means of a connector 27, a lever 28 and a lever 30, supporting the card cylinder, are raised or lowered, thus bringing into operative position a different row of holes on the cards so that the pattern is changed. The lever 30 is made in two parts so as to be adjustable in length. A flat spring 40 is secured to a rod 38 on an extension of the arm 30, and keeps the pattern cards in place. A cord 43' passes round the card cylinder under the ends 32 and also round a roller 43 carried on a rod 42 on an arm 41 on the rod 38, and acts to strip the cards off the cylinder as it revolves. The arm lever 30 and card cylinder are moved to and from the needles by an arm and eccentric on the shaft 7, and the card cylinder is turned by a hook 36.
