Abstract

Coffer-dams.-In apparatus of the kind described in Specification No. 15,355, A.D. 1905, the tubular escape e, which is attached to the man-hole of a submarine vessel, is provided at its lower end with eyes, to which are shackled ropes o passing through eyes m on the vessel. By drawing on these ropes from above, the bottom ring d is pulled down on to the man-hole cover c and secured by hinged bolts. Ropes n guide the tubular escape in its descent, while a screwed lid f is fitted to the ring d to prevent the entry of water. A ladder r is provided and steps h formed on the ring d upon which a person stands to gain admission to the vessel.
