Abstract
16,852. Laycock, W. S. Aug. 19. Seats. - A reversible seat for railway, tram, or other vehicles is arranged so that the seat proper is displaced laterally as the pivoted back is moved over, whereby the seat is made to occupy a minimum of space and its inclination is altered; means may also be provided for varying the inclination of the back. Brackets e are secured one at each end of the seat d, and have inclined edges f resting upon projections g formed upon plates h secured to the end frames a. The displacement of the seat is effected by the engagement with projections i on the brackets e of levers j, which are pivoted at j<1> to the back arms k and provided with pins n working in slots o in the end frames. The motion of the back is limited by stops k<2> on the end frames, but provision may be made for varying its inclination by replacing the bearing of its pivot m by a slot, as in Fig. 4, and providing the lower ends of the arms with curved projections p which engage pins p<1> upon the end frames.
