Abstract
16,758. Kraemer, F. Aug. 18. Hooks.-A. hook used for chaining cattle &c. consists of two parts a, d, connected by a link g engaging the hooked end d<1>. The parts are arranged as a toggle, so that when the hook is closed the line joining the pivot f to the end d' passes below the pivot c, and force is required to move the parts out of this position. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the motion of the part a to open the hook is opposed by the spring e bearing against the shoulder d'.
