Abstract
15,532. Venter, O. July 28. Bleaching; dyeing.-In apparatus for bleaching, dyeing, and mordanting. cops, fabrics, knitted goods, &c., the liquid is circulated through the material in opposite directions by a pump which works always in the same direction instead of as usual in opposite directions alternately. The liquor is contained in a closed tank 2 which communicates with the open vat 1 by a pipe 21 (which may be closed by a cock 13), nozzle 22, and receptacle 20, Fig. 1. The materials to be treated are placed on perforated hollow bodies 23 communicating with the receptacle 20 by narrow pipes 31. Or they may be placed in the annular space round the receptacle 20, the walls of which are in this case perforated. Or the materials may be placed in a perforated cylinder 35, Fig. 3, supported on trunnions 36, 37 and communicating by channels 38, 39 with the nozzle 22. The open vat 1 may be above, level with, or below the tank 2. The apparatus works as follows :-By suitable manipulation of the three-way cocks 12, 14, 15, the liquid may be made to traverse the path 22, 10, 14, 24, 7, 11, 15, 25, or from the interior of the materials outwards by the path 16, 14, 24, 7, 11, 15, 17, without changing the direction of operation of the the pump 7. The tube 30 may be supplied with steam, compressed air, vacuum, or water by means of one of the nozzles 3, 4, 5, 6. For the first dyeing, the liquor can be sucked or forced by vacuum or compressed air, respectively, through the materials by connecting the tube 30 alternately with vacuum and compressed air, when it traverses the path 2, 21, 22, 20, 31, 23 and through the material placed on the bodies 23. Or the first motion may be imparted by the pump. The tank 2 is connected with a reducing-valve 19 or similar device which furnishes steam or compressed air, so that there is always a " super- " pressure " in the tank 2.
