Abstract

12,995. Herzog, G. June 23. Appliances f or taking off.-A boot jack is provided with a spring- actuated heelcrutch, and with grippers which automatically close over the front of the boot when the foot is inserted in the jack, and release it again when the foot is withdrawn. The mechanism is enclosed in a dusttight box 3, supported in an inclined position on feet 2, the heelcrutch 9 being carried by an upright 17 mounted on a slide 8, which moves in antifriction bearings 6, 7 in the rear of the box while the grippers 12, 13 are pivoted to brackets at the front of the box, and also connected by a series of links 14, 15, 16 to the slide 8. The latter is normally pushed forwards by a spring 11 to hold the grippers open, but it closes them when the heel is inserted into the crutch 9 and pushed backwards. The box 3 is fitted with a hand-rest, from which there may project a foot-rest. To prevent spraining the ankle through stumbling while the foot is held by the grippers, both the latter, and also the heel-crutch, may be made in two parts hinged together and acted upon by springs These yield under excessive strain, and the foot is released.
