COMBINED LAST-SUPPORT AND LAST-UNLOCKING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 21, 1909.
Patented Feb. 15, 1910.
Serial No. 523,871.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonon G. Sonuurnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe, State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Last-Supports and Last-Unlocking Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in a combined last support and last unlocking device.
In the manufacture of lasts it is custonu ary to divide the last transversely and to connect the same by a link or hinge whereby the last can be shortened when being inserted in or removed from the shoe. It is also customary to provide such lasts with a device for locking the parts firmly together when the parts are in their lengthened or normal relation. A form of such a last is shown in the drawing, Figure 1, the same consisting of the heel part A and toe part B connected by a link G and provided with a locking bar D, pivotally mounted in one part, having one end E adapted to move into and out of locking engagement with the other part. The locking bar D is provided with a lever arm G.
The object of the present invention is to provide means in combination with a jack or last support for unlocking the parts of a last of the kind above described so that it can be shortened and the shoe readily removed therefrom, and it consists broadly in a device secured to the jack and adapted to be moved, when the lastis supported on the jack, into engagement with the locking device, said unlocking device having sufl icient movement to move the locking device out of locking position.
In the drawings herewith accompanying and making a part of this application, Fig. 1 is an elevation of an embodiment of my invention, the last support and last being partly in section, and Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Same letters of reference indicate like parts in all the views.
The device consists of a stationary last .last to support the last.
support H terminating in a spindle I, adapted to enter the spindle receiving hole of a Mounted on the support H and movable relative thereto is a device for unlocking the last which, as shown, comprises an arm K and an operating arm L, the arm K being movable forwardly and positioned so that its forward movement will cause it to strike against the locking lever arm G and move it far enough to disengage said locking device. The unlocking device is held yieldingly in inoperative position by a spring M connecting it with the support H. The unlocking device may be constructed in various ways and be within the spirit and scope of my invention, provided only that it is secured to the last support, and is movable away from it and into engagement with the last locking de vice.
Having thus described my invention and its use, I claim:
1.' In a combined last support and last unlocking device, a stationary last support and a last unlocking device mounted upon said last support and adapted to have movement away from said last support and longitudinally relative to a last supported thereon.
2. In a combined last support and last unlocking device, a stationary last support and a last unlocking device pivotally attached to said last support and adapted to have movement away from said last support and 1ongitudinally relative to a last supported thereon.
3. In a combined last support and last unlocking device, a last support comprising a post terminating in a spindle adapted to enter the spindle hole of a last, and a last unlocking device pivotally secured to said last support, one end adapted to have a forward movement away from said last support, and means for returning it to and holding it in inoperative position.
