11,698. Arundel, H. B., and Higginson, J. June 3. Winding-machines.-Relatea to yarn or thread winding, doubling, and gassing machines, and consists in providing means whereby the machine may be rapidly converted from a cheese winder into a flanged-bobbin winder. Reference is made to Specification No. 1162, A.D. 1903, which describes means having the same object. A split friction drum a of the Hill & Brown type is used to drive either the cheeses or the bobbins. When a flanged bobbin is being wound, Fig. 2, the thread passes through a traversing guide e direct to the bobbin b. When flangeless bobbins are being wound, the thread is guided on to the cheese through the spiral slit in the split friction drum a. In the latter case the guide e is not used but is swivelled out of the way if necessary, or stopped, or removed ; various methods of mounting the guide to allow of this being done are described.
