Feed-water, heating.-An improvement in the invention described in Specification No. 15,497, A.D. 1904, consists in the placing of a partition in the exhaust or blast pipe of the locomotive, thus causing the steam to traverse a conduit containing the feed-heating pipes before returning to the blast pipe. Fig. 1 shows a sectional elevation and Fig. 2 a view at right-angles. A partition A, placed diagonally in the blast pipe B, causes the steam to pass around the conduit E containing the feed-heating tubes F, which are secured to tube-places G in the casings H, H'. The water is thus heated by the steam and also partly by the products of combustion passing through the smoke-box C.
