Abstract
5555. Gould, W. C. S., and Lambert, A. W. March 16. Filing papers.- In card-index drawers or trays having a pair of rods for securing and releasing the cards, the rods d are made of oblong cross - section, and their ends are guided in slotted plates attached to the drawer. The inner ends rest in a slot of the form shown at l, Fig. 2, in a plate k screwed to the inner end c of the drawer. The other or outer ends of the rods pass through a slot 1 in a disk x, let into the recess 7 in the drawer front b. The disk x is held in place by distance-studs y which also engage holes in a plate o screwed to the drawer. The shank of a knob p passes through a hole in the plate o, and is held in position by a slotted spring plateq engaging a groove in the shank. A crank-pin s on the end of the knob engages a horizontal slot in a plate u guided vertically by the studs y and by a stud w on it projecting into a vertical slot in the plate x. The outer ends of the rods d are formed with semicircular recesses in which engages a pin 2 on the plate u. A second pin 3 on the plate u engages under the ends of the rods d. When the plate u is raised, by rotation of the knob p, the rods are lifted, recesses in their ends engaging the camsurfaces 5 of the slot 1 turning them into the position to lock the cards, shown in Fig. 8. When the knob is turned to move the plate u downwards, the rods return to the position shown in Fig. 3 and free the cards.
