Abstract

3559. Robinson, W. J. Feb. 21. Uppers.-A waterproof or damp-proof lining a for boots and shoes is made in one piece from, preferably, thin, tough, india-rubber or like material, which is moulded into a shape somewhat like an overshoe, as shown in Fig. 2. A slot b, Fig. 4, extends from the heel to the toe of the lining, so as to allow for any creases or puckers which may be formed during the lasting operation, and to facilitate such operation. This slot is afterwards closed by solutioning over it a strip e of rubber or the like. A thin layer of canvas is preferably fastened to the lining next the insole d, to strengthen the parts through which the tacks, rivets, &c. are driven.
