Abstract

3511. Land & Seekabelwerke Akt.- Ges. March 31, 1904, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Safety devices for use with electric conductors.- Spark-gap devices for protecting electric conductors are arranged with the electrodes a, b at a greater distance apart so as to facilitate the entrance of the oil to extinguish any arc formed. This is done, as shown in Fig. 1, by placing a sheet c of some fusible or combustiblo material of better conductivity than oil between them. If desired, one or both of the electrodes may be covered with this material, or, as shown in Fig. 3, fusible electrodes a, b may be arranged parallel to one another with a sheet d of asbestos or the like between them, in addition to the sheet c. In this case, as shown in Fig. 5, the outer electrode b is connected to earth E by a comb or vane e.
