Abstract
1719. Chandler, A. Jan. 28. Making flower &c. pots.-A pot for flowers, plants, and the like is formed by cutting out, stamping, and bending a blank of sheet metal, special provision being made for ventilation and drainage. Fig. 1 represents the blank, which is usually of mild steel: The flaps 8 and plates 6<a> are first bent up about the broken lines 14, 15, and then the ends of the plates 6<a> are bent along the broken lines 16 and fastened together by wires or rivets passed through holes 13. The depressed parts 10 serve to support the bottom of the pot above the ground, so that air may enter through the gaps 11 and one or more drainage holes 12. Small drainage holes 19 are made in the depressed parts 10, and a bent strip of metal is placed over the hole 12. The blanks may be indented or creased along the lines 14, 15, 16. The pots may be packed in the flat condition and bent into shape as required.
