Abstract

27,271. Megone, W. B. Dec. 14. Motor road vehicles.-An easily fixed wind and rain shield is described, having one or more windows of celluloid or other transparent material. The frame consists of a pair of uprights b and a top bar b<1>, the uprights being secured to the dashboard x by clamps c. Straps y, attached to the top bar, brace the frame against wind pressure. The shield is secured to the frame by studs or buttons d adapted to engage eyelet holes in the material, and is stretched laterally by threaded studs d'. Additional support may be given by cross-bars e, e'. In a modification, the shield is composed entirely of transparent material, and the uprights b are hinged near their lower ends to render them capable of being easily stowed. In another modified form, the top bar b<1> is hinged at one end to an upright b. The shield, which has a stiffening top bar, is fixed at its lower end to a roller f, Fig. 7, which is controlled by cords passing over pulleys f<1> or by a spring. The roller runs in suitable bearings within a box g, over which is another box to carry the members of the frame when not in use. When it is undesirable to have any transparent material in the line of sight, the shield is partly lowered. The open space thus left between the bar b<1> and the top of the shield may be greater than necessary. An eyeleted strip of transparent material of any desired depth is provided and is stretched across the upper part of the frame, and a removable gutter is fixed at the lower edge of the strip. Fig. 7 shows an arrangement in which the auxiliary strip a<2> is carried by brackets a', to which the gutter a<3> is also attached.
