Abstract

24,591. Fullagar, H. F. Nov. 12. Gas turbines.-The speed of turbines driven by hot products of combustion is controlled by varying the pressure in the combustion chamber by controlling the amount of air supplied to i t. Several ways of carrying out the invention are described. In the arrangement shown i n Fig. 1, the turbine air pump i is driven by an electric motor q supported with current from the dynamo s, driven from the main turbine e, the current being controlled by a governor v driven from the main shaft. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the pump i<1> is driven by an auxiliary gas turbine e<1>, the supply of gas to its combustion chamber a' being controlled by the governor 4 driven by the main turbine. The inlet of the air pump may be throttled by the governor 4, the pump being driven by either the main or the auxiliary turbine. The pump may be constructed, as shown in Fig. 8, with several inlets; 8, which are closed by the governor in succession so that the air passes a greater or less number of wheels. Such a pump on the main shaft may deliver air to a second pump driven by an auxiliary motor.
