Abstract

22,428. Tyler, R. G. Oct. 18. Armatures; brush-holders; casings; commutators ; motors, gearing for.-A winding-barrel suitable for cranes, lifts, hoists, winches, and other winding, hauling, and lifting machinery is driven by epicyclic gearing from a sleeve on its central shaft, and has internally-projecting pieces connected to, or integral with it, which carry coils and form the pole-pieces of the actuating-motor. Fig. 1 shows the general arrangement, with the winding-barrel A rotatably mounted on ball bearings in the end frames F and having internally - projecting pole-pieces B carrying coils C that are energized from sliprings P in electrical connection with the cable-connectors Q. The end plates F provide bearings for the fixed shaft N, and have feet for attaching to foundations, or fixed or movable cross-arms or discs may be fitted to the end of the barrel and be supported from pedestals or the like by external bearings. The armature or rotor L is mounted on the sleeve K surrounding the shaft N and rotating on ball bearings k that are adjusted by screwing the cones to varying positions on the shaft N and afterwards locking them in position by means of the nuts o, o'. The sleeve k carries a commutator K' in electrical connection with brushes carried by the barrel A and energized from the slip-rings P by means of other brushes p. Pinions I, each of which may be replaced by two narrower ones, are rotatably mounted on a carrier J connected to the sleeve K, and gear with toothed rings G, H, the former of which is connected to the barrel A and the latter to the fixed end frame F. An oil-fence R made in two parts, one of which is connected to the barrel and the other to the sleeve K, and an oil-catcher S prevent the oil from the bearings from reaching the motor.
