Kinematographs &c.-Plates or leaves bearing pictures or advertisements or having reflecting-surfaces of various forms, which are intended to be rapidly substituted one for another to obtain the effect of motion and other optical effects, are mounted at one edge on a strip or band which may be bent back or douhled over in such a way as to expose the plates to view or bring them into action successively. The point of folding over may be caused to travel along the length of the band, or the band may be moved over a fixed bar or the like. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in book form operated by manipulating the end-plate or a spiral handle a'. Fig. 10 shows a series of plates a mounted on an endless band c. which passes over. a bar d and rollers g, e so as to bring the plates successively into view. One of the rollers may have teeth and engage holes in the band. Fig. 11 shows a modified form of the apparatus, in which the strip c is moved to and fro over a bar, being attached to a spiral spring at one end. The strip or band may be of flexible material or of metal pieces hinged together as shown in Fig. 5. The plates are attached along their lower edges and a portion of their backs, as shown in Fig. 3, or their edges may be bevelled off for attachment, as shown in Fig. 7.
