Abstract

20,724. Atherton, J. Sept. 27. Instruments with sonorous strings.-An instrument of the percussive type has a soundboard c, Fig. 2, and a metal bridge e held between the shaped sides a, b, Fig. 4. The soundboard is provided with twenty wrest-pins g, each numbered, a music stave direction print f<1>, a series of headed steel pins h, and another series of pins i with needle points. The bridge e is provided with blunt-pointed pinsj and a round wooden bridge k. The hammers d, attached in a rabbet f, consist of strips L of ivorine or other material with semicircular ends, pieces M, N of wood, pieces 0, P of felt, and pieces R of ivorine on which the diagram shown in Fig. R is impressed. These hammers are pulled upwards by the thumb, and when released strike the string. The strings are of silk-covered metal and are of specified sizes.
