Abstract
18,796. Brown, J. Aug. 31. Regenerative furnaces.-Relates to regenerative flues for gas-retort ovens and other heating furnaces. Gases from the producer A, Fig. 2, pass through ports a into the retort chamber B, and thence through regenerative flues D, Figs. 1 and 2, located on each side of the producer. The flues D are provided with soles D<1> equal to the width of the flue space which is usually provided, and are arranged one above another, and connected at the ends by orifices G, so that the gases take a zig-zag course. Air enters through regulable openings d in the front of the furnace, and passes, as shown by the arrows, through channels E at the sides of the flues, through tubes F crossing the flues, and, as shown by the arrows, to the retort chamber B. The cross-tubes F may, if desired, be arranged vertically, at an inclination, or longitudinally of the flues. The air may also be conveyed through the flues D while the gases are passed through the cross-tubes F. According to the Provisional Specification, in another modification in which the cross tubes F are not used, the channels E communicate at the ends to form zig-zag passages.
