17,898. Bennett, W. A. Aug. 17. Studs; buttons; necktie retainers; jewellery fastenings.-A lateral hole is made in the ovoid head of a shirt stud &c., Figs. 1 and 5, preferably at the smallest diameter, to receive a scarf-pin or safety-pin for retaining a necktie in position, and also serving as a protector for the scarf-pin. For this purpose also, pins may be spirally grooved further down than is usual, or the lateral hole in the stud may be made partly triangular, Fig. 6, in which case a round pin with a triangular point portion is inserted and given a slight turn. Otherwise, the pin may be screw-threaded, or may be clamped in the hole by means of a small set-screw in the head of the stud. The stud may have its stem hinged to the base.
