Abstract
13,953. Mehler, R. June 20. Chairs; seats. - Folding seats and chairs are constructed in such a manner that a perfectly rigid back-rest is obtained. The seat a, Fig. 1, is supported on two bars b having a turned-up end, to which are pivoted the backwardly-inclined legs h and the side bars e of the back-rest. The forwardly-inclined legs c are connected by a rod f which, when the chair is open, engages with the guides g fixed to the bars b. The upper ends of the backward legs h have teeth or serrations i, engaging, when open, with similar teeth or serrations k in the side bars e of the back-rest. When the rod f is drawn from the guides g, the back-rest can be folded down. Fig. 2 shows the chair folded. In another form, the front legs c are not joined with a rod f, but are provided with studs which engage with guide-holes in the seat bars b. The upper ends of the legs a and the lower ends of the side bars e have smooth surfaces so that the ends abut firmly against each other.
