Abstract

12,559. Clark, L. June 3. Moulding earthenware pipes.-Sockets are formed mechanically by means of rollers carried in diametrically-opposite pairs on a revolving head. The driving-shaft A<1>, which can be raised or lowered, carries a boss A, from which, as shown, radiate four pairs of arms B, and two oppositely-placed pairs K arranged diagonally to the arms B. Blocks C, D, L on these arms carry the shaping-rollers E<1>, G, N, N', and, being connected by pivoted rods F, J, M to a plate F<1> on the shaft A<1> or to clamps J<1>, M<1> on rods H, which form part of a frame passing through the plate F<1> and slidable along the shaft A', are radially adjustable by the vertical movement of the shaft or frame. In operation, the head is placed over a moulded pipe end O, and then lowered until the rollers N, N' act as shown in Fig. 5. On further lowering, the plate F<1> is stopped by the points f, and the outside rollers E<1> then begin to move in, while at the same time, by depressing the ring H', the rollers G are caused to act. Reversing the movements disengages the rollers. A small roller P, Fig. 6, can be used to assist the rollers G, and the pipe can rotate and the head remain stationary, or both can turn.
