10,252. Butler, H. M. May 4. Axles.-The body of the axle 1 is made of H section with the web vertical. At each end, the flanges are bent upwards and downwards as at 8, 9 and are riveted to flanges 7 formed on the stamped axle barrel or arm 5. The projecting end 4 of the web may be bent laterally or may fit into a hollow formed in the barrel. A flap for supporting the bearing-springs may be attached as shown at 13. Projecting ears and horns on the flanges 7 may be bent round the flanges 8, 9 for further security.
