Abstract

7840. Harbinger, W. April 5. Boats, relieving from water.-Consists of a valve for the bottom of a lifeboat. The casings a, b having drain ports j, f, respectively, are screwed or bolted together to form a chamber in which a brass, aluminium, india-rubber, or other automatic valve q is guided. Fig. 3 shows the valve q closed, the boat being waterborne. The casing a has a screwed extension h to which is applied the non-automatic cap or valve m, which is prevented from being screwed off by the flanged head of the bolt o screwed into the cap. In a modification, the valve q has an extension or guide, which slides within the extension of the casing a, having in this case a plain 'outer surface, while the bolt is screwed throughout its length. The Provisional Specification states that a headed pin, screwed into a boss in the extension of the casing, acts as a guide for the automatic valve, while the cap has a spiral slot which works on a pin screwed into the side of the extension.
