Phonographs.-An adjustable rod extends over the record disc and serves to guide the stylus point to the centre of the disc so as to bring into action the device for removing the diaphragm. Above the spindle B, Fig. 1, of the record disc A is another smaller disc C, the edge H of which is bevelled and which carries the arm D. This arm is adjusted so that its end coincides with the final position of the stylus point. The removal device comes into action just as the stylus reaches the edge of the disc C. In Fig. 4, the spring arm D is adjusted by the lever K which is controlled by a pin sliding in the slot L of the disc I. By rotating the disc I or the knob B, the arm D is either removed away from, or caused to bear against, the periphery of the disc C. If the spindle does not extend through the record disc A, the arm D may be carried on a separate piece in the centre of the disc supported if necessary on a layer of indiarubber to ensure sufficient rigidity.
