Abstract

6621. Andem, C. S. March 18. Loom take-up motions; warp tension, regulating; breast beams.-In cotton looms, the cloth G passes over and under parallel tension bars or rollers L, M before passing round the take - up roller B, instead of passing directly from the fell H to the take-up roller, in order that the abrasion of the cloth, caused at the beatup by the slackening and tightening of the cloth in contact with the take-up roller, may be prevented. The bars or rollers L, M are carried by arms J bolted to the loom frame, and the journals of the bar L are preferably held loosely in sockets in the arms J. The bar L is preferably so proportioned as to be flexibly resilient, and to yield to the increased tension of the warp threads at the opening of the shed, so that the central warp threads will be drawn tight, and less power will be required to throw the shuttle. The selvage threads will also be maintained in a properly tightened condition, thus obviating the necessity for increasing t e diameter of the take-up roller at its ends. The bar L may be mounted over and slightly in front of the take-up roller B, and in this case the bar M is dispensed with. In the Provisional Specification, it is stated that the bearing-supports of the bar L may be made yielding by means of suitably-arranged springs.
