Abstract

5595. Howorth, F. W., [Svenska Carbid- & Acetylen-Aktiebolaget]. March 7. Regulators.- Pressure - regulating apparatus is disposed between a main gas conduit 3<x> and a conduit 5 supplying burners, so that a predetermined constant pressure is maintained at the burners, and the pressure at the inlet end of the conduit 5 is increased by an amount corresponding to the reduction due to friction and the like between that point and the burners. The conduit 3x is connected to a valvecasing 3 containing a throttle-valve 12 carried by the bell 1<x> of an ordinary regulating gas holder 1. Between the valve-casing 3 and the conduit 5 is connected a pipe 6, the bore of which decreases to a minimum section 7, and then increases to a outlet section 8 equal in area to the cross-section of the conduit 5, and is in communication with the bell 1<x> through a pipe 9 at the section 7. Velocity energy is converted into pressure energy between the sections 7, 8, on account of the continuous increase in crosssection, and the throttling behind the section 8 by the burners.
