To all whom 'it may concern.' I Be it known that I, JOHN G. Pn'rrrs a citizen of the UnitedStatea, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful improvements in Mixing-Heads for Gas- Torches, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to gas torches for welding and cutting metal, and particularly to torches of this character empli-j,- ing means for producing both a combined acetylene and oxygen gas, and supplying a pure oxygen gas under pressure.
The object of my invention is to provide valve-controlled means for dividing and utilizing the oxygen gas obtained from vone of the valve-controlled systems 'of passages throughthe torch without aecting the necessary supply of oxygen to mixvwith acetylene gas that Hows' through the other system of passages therethrough, and a further object of my invention is to provide both a manually operated and automatically operated valve-control for such divided stream v oI" pure oxygen gas.
These and other objects I am enabled to accomplish by the means hereinafter fully described, and as particularly pointedout ini'the claims. v

Thisrear end of the shaft of valve 18 is provided with a circular head of suflicient diameter that normally bears against diaphragm 20, which latter consists of a circular plate of thin flat metal or leather the margins of which are secured against the annular rear edge of section 15 of the casing by the rear section 21 of the same.

The operation of my invention is apparent-The acetylene gas discharges from pipe e into bore 2 and fromthence intolthe transverse valve-seat 3 where 'the volumeof the flow of ygas is controlled by spindle-valve 4L. From the valve-seat the acetylene gas flows into the transaxial passage 5 and from the latter enters the longitudinal passage 6 and from thence into the lateral passage 7 and to the rear end of the bore of the mixing-head. spiral groove of the mlxing-head. The oxygen gas is given awhirling movement by the spiral groove as it discharges from the forward extremity of the mixing-head and it combines with the acetylene gas, and together therewith discharges through pipe D.
A portion of the oxygen gas from passage S of the body enters the lateral passage 16 of the forward section 15 of the valve lcaslng, and is controlled by vneedle-valve 18 as it flows into chamber 19 therefrom from whence it discharges through passa e 28 into thev rear end of the bore 26 and ows into pipe 29 leading to the'tip. The volume of the oxygen gas flowing into chamber 19is controlled by manipulating either screw 22 so as to press the diaphragm 2O forward and move the point of the shaft of needle-valve.

A gas torch comprising a body and valve casing, said body having passages therethrough, valves controlling said passages, and a device for mixing the gas issuing therefrom, and said valve casing having a chamber, a diaphragm in said chamber, a plunger attachedto and extending axially from said diaphragm, a tubular set-screw through which said plunger extends, an inlet passage to said chamber, a valve connected to said diaphragm controlling said inlet passage, andjan outlet passage from said chamber.

A gas torch comprising a body and a valve-casing, said body having two independent sets "of gas passages therethrough, valves controlling said passages, a lateral passage extending from one of said gas passages out through the side of said body, and a device for mixing the gas issuing from said body, and said valve-casing having a chamber, a diaphragm in said chamber, an inlet passage to said chamber, a valve connected to said diaphragm and controlling said inlet passage, and an outlet passage leading from said chamber.

A gas torch comprising a body and a valve-casing, said body having two independent sets of gas passages therethrough, valves controlling said passages, a lateral passage extending from' one 4of said gas' passages out through the side of said body, and a device for mixing the gas issuing from said body, and said valve-casing having a chamber, a diaphragm in said chamber, means for regulating the movement of said diaphragm, an inlet passage to said chamber, a valve connected to said diaphragm and icontrolling inlet passage, and .an` outlet passage leading from '.sald chamber.

valves controlling said passages, a lateral passage extending fromone of said gas passages out throughthe s ide of said body, and a device for mixing the gas' issuing from said body, and said valve-casing having a chamber, a diaphragm in'said chamber, a plunger connected to said diaphragm, a tubular screw through which said plunger extends, means for regulating the movement of said diaphragm, an inlet passage to.said chamber, a valve connected to said diaphragm and controlling said inlet passage, and an outlet passage leading from said chamber. v
7 A gas torch comprising abody and a valve-casing, said body having two independent sets of gas passages therethrough, valves controlling said passages, a lateral passage extending from one of said gas passages out through the side of said body, and a device for mixing the gas issuing therefrom, and said valve-casing having a chamber, a diaphragm in said chamber, a regulating plunger for said diaphragm, an inlet passage to said chamber, a valve connected to said diaphragm and controlling said inlet passage, and an outlet passage leading from said chamber.l

A gas torch comprising a body having a plurality df gas passages, and a device for mixing the gas issuing therefrom, and an exterior- 'valve-casing colmn'unicating therewith having an interior chamber having inlet and outlet passages, and an automatic valve in said chamber controlling one of said passages.
9. A gas torch comprising a body having a plurality of gas passages, and a device for mixing the gas issuing therefrom, and an.
exterior valve-casing having an interior and an automatic valve in said chamber controlling said inlet passage.

A gas torch comprising a body having a plurality of gas passages, a device for mixing the gas issuing therefrom, and a valvecasing having an interior chamber having inlet and outlet passages, an automatic valve in said chamber controlling one of saidpassages, and a regulating means for said valve.

A gas torch comprising a body having a plurality of gas passages, a device for mixing the gas issuing therefrom, and valvecasing having an interior chamber having inlet and outlet passages, a valve in said chamber controlling one of said passages, and regulating means for said valve tapped into said casing.
