Abstract
5015. Campbell, T. J. Feb. 29. Paddle - wheels for boats are constructed so that they will not raise the water as they rotate. To the paddle shaft 1 are secured hubs 3 which receive the inner ends of the braced apokes 4, the outer ends being secured to the lower parts of the bearings 11, 12 in which the shafts 21 are journalled. These shafts carry four stiffened blades 22, and the arrangement is such that, when the shaft 1 rotates, the shafts 21 also rotate, but in the opposite direction.
