Abstract
4883. Carlson, S. Feb. 27. Vapour burners. -A vapour burner for heating and d illuminating purposes consists of a nozzle b, which is supplied with vaporized petroleum, or other hydrocarbon, from a chamber e arranged within a bent pipe a, and above a n incandescent mantle d, which is arranged upon the chamber c, where vapour mixes with the air required for combustion, and which communicates heat to the vaporizing-chamber e. Petroleum from a receptacle enters the lower part of the chamber e, and vapour escapes therefrom by another branch of the bent pipe a, the upper end of which terminates at the upper part of the chamber. A perforated diaphragm may be arranged, if desired, across the centre of the chamber e to prevent any solid particles of carbon from passing to the nozzle.
