Abstract

4230. Pfeifer, A., and Wolz, P. Feb. 19. Steam - generator &c. furnaces ; smoke consuming.- The complete combustion of solid bituminous fuel is effected by dividing the combustion products rising from the coked fuel, one part being combined with hot air and the combustion products rising from the coking-fuel near the dead-plate, and the other part being combined with a current of air admitted under the fire bridge. The two parts are afterwards burned together in a common flue. Fig. 1 shows the courses of the currents of combustion products and air, and Figs. 2 and 4 show the invention as applied in a steam-generator furnace. The combustion products rising from the rear part g of the furnace divide as shown in Fig. 1, the current IIa passing through the apertures h, k into combustion chambers c, where it meets the the air currents III passing through the conduits n, o, and the current I, from the front part f of the furnace, passing through the conduit l. The combined currents then pass into the central flue d, where they meet the current II<b>, which passes through the apertures i, and the supplementary current III, Fig. 1, which enters through the conduit p, Fig. 2, in the fire bridge.
