Abstract

2588. Lake, W. E., [Lazareff, M. A.]. Feb. 2. Bottle and jar necks.-During the manufacture of a bottle, jar, or like vessel, and while the latter is still in a mould, a band 12, preferably of aluminium alloy, and formed with projecting lugs 14, is inserted in a circumferential groove 11 in the neck of the vessel, and securely held in place by forcing down the top portion of the vessel so as to compress the soft glass against the band 12. To assist in preventing the band from working loose, it is provided with shoulders which engage with corresponding shoulders on the neck of the vessel, as shown at 13. The bottle is closed by a cap 16, on the inner side, and near the lower edge of which are formed slightly inclined lugs 15, which, when the cap 16 is placed over the mouth of the bottle, and slightly rotated, engage the lugs 14 with a wedge action, and firmly hold the cap 16 in place. A washer 17 is placed between the upper edge of the bottle neck and the cap 16. The application of the invention to fruit jars is mentioned in the Specification.
