Abstract
541. Mills, B. J. B., [Zwoyer Fuel Co.]. Jan. 8. Moving-beater apparatus.-Pulverulent materials, such as coal dust, culm, minerals, rare earths, &c., are mixed with a binding-medium, prior to moulding or briquetting, by feeding them from a hopper F, Fig. 1, over a roller G, and into a chamber A through which pass the hot gases from a furnace H. The bed of the chamber is hollow and provided with rotary agitators C having lips b to pick up the material and feed it towards the exit D. The liquid or powdered binding-medium is forced by a rotary pump M from a tank K to an atomizer L supplied also with steam and bent at its lower end to deflect and break up the stream. The mixture is finally discharged by paddles E through the opening D. In a modification, shown in Fig. 3, the material falls from an oscillating tray N and meets an upward current of the binding-medium, the mixture being withdrawn by a screw O. More furnaces of either form may be combined in a series.
