Abstract

190,374. Dunwoodie, L. Jan. 3, 1922. Casings; making, processes for.- Valve bodies are constructed by cutting and welding together portions of standard pipe sections. A tube A is flanged over at B, or a flange is welded or riveted to it, and tubes C, C<1> are fitted into openings in the side and welded to the tube A. The tubes C, C' are screwed at their inner ends to receive the screwed facings D, D<1> for a pair of valve discs F of a gate valve. The facings may be inclined to the vertical as shown, or one may be vertical, or both may be vertical and parallel. The lower end of the tube A is cut with semicircular projecting portions which are bent over and welded together to form the bottom of the valve casing A<1>. Lugs F<1> are provided on the valve discs, which slide on a strip G welded to each side of the tube A. In a modification, the side of the tube A may be cut away in vertical planes on each side of and parallel to the discs F, and the openings thus made may be filled by flat sheets of metal into which the tubes C, C' are welded as before. In a modification, Fig. 7, applied to a screw-down valve, a tube K is cut along the dotted line K<1> and a piece L with bevelled edges K<2> is welded to the two parts of the tube K. The seating for the valve 0 is formed in the piece L. Fig. 10 shows a casing for a double-beat valve. A tube Q is formed with flanged ends R which are pierced to admit a flattened tube S, which is cut and then folded and welded so as to leave two lugs' S' which are welded to the end of the tube T. In another modification, the casing for a gate valve is formed from a tube with flattened sides
