Abstract

28,578. Pfautz, D. M. Dec. 29. Filters or similar filtering-units; cleansing.-Water for public supply runs from the source a through the filtering-conduit d to the pump chamber b. The conduit d is divided into compartments by walls d<2> having openings d<3>, provided with valves d<4>. On the side-walls of each chamber are grooves into which slides a filter compartment e, having perforated faces e<2>, and packed with filtering-material e<1>. The base of the compartment is extended at e<3> to form a receptacle for any loose impurities. A crane, adjacent to each compartment e, lifts it on to a washing-platform, where it is flushed. The water, in filtering, passes successively through the screen d', and the compartments e containing media so chosen that each filter retains finer particles than the preceding one.
