Abstract

28,506. Iljinskij, M., and Wedekind & Co., R. Dec. 28. Chloroxyanthraquinones are produced by treating the non-dyeing #-, or a #-oxyanthraquinones in alkaline solution with hypochlorites, or other source of nascent chlorine. In strongly-alkaline solutions, monochlor derivatives are chiefly produced. The new bodies are suitable for use in the manufacture of dyes. In an example, anthraflavic acid is dissolved in boiling soda lye and is boiled with sodium hypochlorite, produced by decomposing chloride of lime by carbonate of soda containing chlorine. Sodium sulphite is added to destroy excess of hypochlorite, and a clear yellow precipitate of monochloranthraflavic acid is obtained by adding sulphuric acid. In similar examples, in which soda lye is replaced by sodium carbonate, di- and trichlor derivatives are obtained. Dichloranthraflavic acid, monochlor- 1 :7- dioxyanthraquinone and monochlor-#- oxyanthraquinone are produced similarly from isoanthraflavic acid, 1 : 7-dioxyanthraquinone, and #-oxyanthraquinone. The production of 1:7-dioxyanthraquinone is described in Specification No. 10,242, A.D. 1903.
